Avery Duncan (b. 1995, USA) is a filmmaker based out of New York City.
Avery is co-founder of the filmmaking collective Larua Group. Founded in 2018, The collective consists of an international group of artists united in the pursuit of alternative, self-sustaining production models for independent cinema.
In 2022, Avery participated in the creation and weekly organization of a six-month acting workshop in San Sebastian, Spain, called Zinema Konpainia. Zinema Konpainia is a community of Basque actors and filmmakers from Elías Querejeta Zine Eskola focused on exploring and expanding the collaborative processes of filmmaking. The workshop resulted in Zine-Kaiera No. 0 and No. 1 (two publications outlining the activities and reflections of the process) as well as four short films.
Together with Korean fine artist/filmmaker, Yeonho Jung, Avery is preparing a three month long workshop under the title IIP (Integrated Image Practices). IIP is a weekly workshop comprised of a selected group of interdisciplinary artists brought together to create art/video work under a single prompt given at the start of the first session. At the end of each three month season, a group show will be curated and held in the name of the respective season’s theme.
Avery is currently working on finishing his fifth film, “The Rajah’s Diamond”, adapted from the Robert Louis Stevenson serial of the same name. Principal photography for the film was completed late last year (September 2022), in Spain.
